WL1 for P5 not moving up even after cancellation of P3

My brother booked an eticket for 5 passengers for journey from Kozhikode to Chennai Central in 2A by 12602 MAQ-MAS Mail of 26.5.2014; While the first four P1 to P4 got confirmed under PQ, P5 was given RL GN WL1. In order to get accommodation for P5, the ticket of P3 was cancelled; Even after this, the RL GN WL1 has not moved to confirmed status. PNR is 450-7342113.

Can any one please clarify why the RLGN WL1 has not moved even after cancellation of P-3.

But why do you need to cancel? All waitlisted people can also travel with you. They don't need to pay extra money.
