Here are the salient rules :
- Tatkal booking will start from 10am for AC berths and 11am for Non-AC berths and continues till counters are open. Booking of Tatkal tickets will be given priority throughout the day. Normal tickets will be allowed if no more persons for Tatkal ticket booking are there. You should go and stand in queue at around 6-7 am if you want your turn to be within first 5.
- You can stand in any queue. Tatkal booking will be done from all the queues.
- Carry Id proof of at least one main person in the ticket. Along with it a photostat of the Id Proof(both sides mandatory) is required. Write the ID Number on the top of the photostat.
- Use the normal train ticket reservation form. The person whose ID you want to mention should be first in the list of passengers(maximum 4 allowed for Tatkal).
- On the top of the reservation form write "Tatkal" and also the ID no(in capital letters)
- Fill multiple forms with different trains etc. Keep inquiring with your friend/relative about the current status of Tatkal tickets so that if quota is over you can use different Tatkal form.
- Try to book as less Tatkal tickets and more normal wait-listed tickets. For example if you have a 8 year son, then book 2 Tatkal ticket( 1 for Adult and 1 for so) and book 1 normal wait-listed ticket. This will save money as well as wastage of money in case you don't travel.
- Tatkal booking online will open at 10:00 am for AC and 11:00 am for non-AC at IRCTC . IRCTC has doubled the server capacity and now we're able to book Tatkal ticket within 30 minutes only. Now ID-card number is no longer required when booking online.
