    What does Opt berth option given in Passenger details page in IRCTC means.

    Can anyone tell what is the use of it while booking ticket

    Opt berth option given in IRCTC is for optional berth for children from 5-11 years.

    While booking ticket in IRCTC this option remain default unselected for children between 5-11 years.
    And 30% less fare is charged for that seat in the ticket.
    And if you select the option of opt berth then whole ticket fare will be charged for that seat also and IRCTC will show the pop-up as shown below in Attached File.
    This option is only valid if 1 passenger in the same ticket is having confirm berth.
    If child below 11 years is traveling alone then opt berth option is to be mandatory selected because no passenger can travel without confirm berth.

    This options is only for SL, 3A, 2A class. And remain automatically unselected.
    Opt berth option is not for CC, 2S class.



    For the children above 12 years this option remain default selected and whole ticket fare is charged.
